The Leech Lake Employment & Training Program provides services to all eligible Leech Lake Enrollees who are receiving Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) services in our area. The four counties are Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard and Itasca. The focus of the program is work first, training and education second. We also assist with supportive services to ensure consumers maintain their jobs or find employment.

The primary purpose of the TERO program is to enforce tribally enacted Indian Preference law to insure that Indian/Alaska Native people gain their rightful share to employment, training, contracting, subcontracting, and business opportunities on and near reservations and native villages.

Job Corps is a NO COST program offering career training and education to low-income youth aged 16-24 at 121 centers nationwide. They provide training in a variety of voctional areas, assist students in obtaining a High School Diploma or GED (if needed), and offer up to 21 months of job placement services to graduates. Openings are across campuses throughout the Midwest. Women are strongly encouraged to apply! Students receive the following benefits:

The Construction Trades Career Academy is a competency-based training program designed to assure graduating students have demonstrated knowledge and skills essential to perform basic skills in the construction workplace. The Academy will prepare students for jobs which require constructional skills including: woodworking, basic rough framing, roofing, basic drywall installation, and working from a set of blueprints. The Construction Trades Academy training will prepare gradates to enter the building trades sector in positions such as: carpenter, carpenter helper, drywall installer, roofer, mason assistant, cabinet maker assistant, landscape worker and painter. The combination of skills gained through this training is highly transferable to construction trades jobs in many sectors of the economy.

BI-CAP’s YouthBuild program works with youth, ages 16-24 who have left the traditional school system. The program provides an opportunity for youth to spend 29 hours per week in academics, leadership development, and construction training.
YouthBuild participants work four days a week earning the state minimum wage. They are divided into two teams and alternate each day between the classroom and the construction site. Cass Lake Bena ALC is BI-CAP YouthBuild’s educational partner.

YouthBuild is a community-based pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 who have dropped out of high school or are in an alternative school setting and are interested in developing skills in the construction field.

The Subsidy Program is an income-based program, using the family size and household income to determine a co-pay that families would pay directly to their chosen provider each month.

Minnesota Tribal Resources for Early Childhood Care is managed through the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Early Childhood Development Program. MNTRECC provides services throughout the state of MN in cooperation with Child Care Aware of MN and Tribal Child Care Programs of the 11 federally recognized tribes in Minnesota. Offices are located on the Leech Lake Reservation in Northern Minnesota.
